My Story
As a boy, I loved stories.
I'd make them up and tell them as a way of delaying being put to bed. I'd sit enthralled watching my older brothers playing Ocarina of Time on the Nintendo 64. As I got older, that desire to absorb myself in other worlds, turned into a love of telling other people's stories.
I was always acting, or singing, or both while I was at school. Most of the time I took it more seriously than I took my work - much to the chagrin of many a maths teacher.
It wasn't that I disliked the scientific stuff - I was gripped by the problems it presented and the creativity required to solve them. And there was a career to be had there, unlike in acting - I was told - so I went to study Computing at Imperial College London.
After a few years of focussing my energy on programming problems, I realised I was missing something - that creative itch wasn't being scratched. I suddenly found myself applying to Drama School, and miraculously being accepted into the Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
For three years I had the chance to explore my creativity, and I was pushed right to my limits. It was right near the end I discovered voiceover - and it felt like everything had been leading up to that point.
With voiceover, I could apply all of my experience of technical problem solving together with storytelling. I could engage with people in the most intimate setting, and I could craft the kinds of worlds that had inspired me as a kid.
I'd finally found what I was supposed to be doing with my life, and I've not looked back since.
Training
Having graduated GSMD in 2017, I spent several years learning all about VO both on the job and through Gravy for the Brain.
In 2020, I began training with the magical Tanya Rich at Richcraft, where I made my Commercial, Corporate & IVR reels. Be sure to check out more of Tanya’s amazing students on the Rich List by clicking the purple crown!
